Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) in the Retail ...
RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identification -- a technology whose use is growing fast, and which has major implications for consumers, particularly with regard to privacy.
What is RFID technology?
As its name implies, RFID is an ID-identification-system. It relies on a small chip that is implanted in a tag. The chip can record and store data, such as a serial number, price or purchase record....

Operations Of RFID : RFID Block Diagram | Backscatter ...
b. RFID Block Schematic:
A simplified block schematic of an RFID tag (also called transponder) is shown in the diagram below. Various components of the tag are as shown. Normally, the antenna is external to the tag chip, and large in size.
The operation of the RFID tag is described below:
Handshaking with the Reader (interrogator):
The reader continuously emits RF carrier signals, and keeps observing the received RF signals for data.
The presence of a tag (for our discussion, we consider only passive tag) modulates the rf field, and the same is detected by the reader.
The passive tag absorbs a small portion of the energy...

RFID vs Barcodes | Difference between RFID and Barcodes
Tweet
As far back as 1960s, the barcodes were used in industrial work environments. In the early 1970s, common barcodes started appearing on grocery shelves. To automate the process of identifying grocery items, UPC barcodes were placed on products and were used to mechanize the process of checking out in store. They are in use today also for allotment, supply chain, retail stores, apparel shops,...

What is the difference between passive and active RFID ...
Answer by Tigerwhit
Confidence votes 41.7K
Active systems have a much longer range than passive systems due to having an internal battery. Because of this an active tag will be much larger and more expensive than a passive tag. The passive tag will basically convert the RF signal from the Interrogator or reader and turn it into energy to return the signal.
Active tags will often be found on larger sized shipping containers/products whereas a passive tag, due to its small form factor can be used on any variety of products, containers, boxes...etc.
Passive tags are usually more durable than...

Atlas RFID Solutions Active vs. Passive RFID
Active vs. Passive RFID
When do I need to use Active RFID? Or will Passive RFID work just as well?
Active RFID and Passive RFID are fundamentally different technologies that are often evaluated together. While both use radio frequency energy to communicate between a tag and a reader, the method of powering the tags is different. Active RFID uses an internal power source (battery) within the tag to continuously power the tag and its RF communication circuitry, whereas Passive RFID relies on RF energy...
