RFID - Container Tracking
RFID systems can be categorized as active, passive or battery-assisted passive.
Active RFID
In active RFID systems, tags have their own transmitter and power source. Usually, the power source is a battery. Active tags broadcast their own signal to transmit the information stored on their microchips. Active RFID systems typically operate in the ultra-high frequency (UHF) band and offer a range of...

RFID: The Wal-Mart Mandate: Compliance and Beyond ...
Eighteen months ago, as companies worked to meet the mandates of retailers for radio frequency identification (RFID) tagging, the easy route first appeared to be: apply an RFID tag to a case, then encode the tag as the case moved down the line. In many instances this route proved to be a dead end. Dead-on-arrival RFID tags made (and still make) this approach a logistics nightmare.

What is RFID?
RFID tags and Inlays consist of three components: a chip, an antenna and a substrate. RFID tags are manufactured in different shapes and sizes depending on the type of application in which they are used.
RFID operates tags can either be Passive (no internal power source), Semi-Passive (passive but includes a battery) and Active which only operate with a battery.
Active Tags: These tags have a longer read range and larger memories than passive tags and usually operate at 455 MHz, 2.45 GHz, or 5.8 GHz frequencies. Typical read range is from 20 to 100m.
