The Smart-Shelf (or wireless inventory control system) uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to allow tracking of books, publications and folders in libraries or archiving departments . Items are individually tagged with RFID labels which are then linked to a database, making them easily retrievable.

RFID Library implemented in AmbientTalk: connection/disconnection
This movie shows a library demo application developed in AmbientTalk. The books in the library are tagged with RFID tags and are scanned using a low range RFID reader connected via USB. It shows how RFID-tagged books moving in and out of range of the reader are events on which the application reacts.
