Watch out for the modern pickpocket
TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) -- More credit card companies are now sending their customers credit cards equipped with an RFID chip, known as a Radio Frequency Identification chip. The credit card companies say that it's a convenience but critics are convinced that it's a pretty sneaky way to pickpocket.

Electronic pick-pocketing possible with smart cards, patent warns
DALLAS -- The inventors of the so-called smart cards, the credit cards and passports with radio frequency chips known as RFID inside, warned that they are susceptible to electronic pick-pocketing in the patent filed with the U.S. Government.
"This is perfect for thieves," said Walt Augustinowicz, owner of Identity Stronghold.

DENVER -- Documents recently uncovered at the US Patent and Trademark Office show VISA knew that credit cards containing RFID chips are "a major concern for consumers and businesses alike."
Yet the credit card companies never warned their customers about the risks and continue to issue millions credit cards with RFID chips today.

An amendment to a Senate bill is working its way through Florida Senate committees that would require an "electronic authentication" to be added to Florida drivers' licenses.
