Biosensors RFID tags

It can take millions of dollars of money and effort to lock-down the manufacturing of biosensors and medical diagnostics. Therefore, you must have some out of the box thinking to be able to get your initial biosensor product ready for market and on the shelves.

At ZP we work to make the biosensors and manufacturing as good as they can be, but we also use supporting technology like RFID tags to carry important data about the sensors into the field. RFID tag technology allows the manufacture...

RFID tester with object detection using Arduino Uno (vid1)

These are film spools (white plastic) that have an RFID tag. The spinning table simulated the conveyor belt in the factory that will pass the spools past the sensor. The sensor will detect the object and test it for a functioning RFID tag. If the tag is successfully read, the blue light will turn on and the gate relay will be opened (simulated with the voltmeter continuance test). If the object is tested without sensing the RFID tag, the red light will light and the gate will remain shut.

RFID under water - Test in plastic pot

Liquids inhibit RFID power transfer and communication and we wanted to test it.

RFID reader, reader antenna and a sensor tag (Stella battery free LED tag) were set up in a very simple configuration.

You'll see it by yourself in the video. We can read the tag when on water, can even read the tag underwater when at around 5 cm but we lose communication - the LED does not light up anymore - once we go deeper.

This is what you would expect when having an RFID tag underwater, right? Well, not...
